Music For All

The primary goal of Musiikkihuone Huvina is to strengthen, develop, and nurture the musical relationship of the individual, group, or community. I believe that music can be a resource that brings joy to everyday life and enriches our experiences. Music is a tool for interaction and a unifying force that enables self-expression in a unique way. I want to highlight the value of creativity, culture, and art. Playing, singing, and engaging in music are for everyone, not just for those who are already highly skilled.

Research on the brain shows that listening to music activates the brain widely. Music affects us whether we want it to or not. It influences things like heart rate, blood pressure, and various physiological functions. It activates emotions, cognition, and motor functions. You might have noticed that your steps feel lighter during a run when paced by energetic music, or that listening to calm music can help settle an overactive mind and body. Our relationship with music begins in the womb and accompanies us throughout life. The benefits of early music education for language development, as well as the positive cognitive effects of playing an instrument, are well-known. But did you know that studies suggest that engaging in music may also reduce the risk of dementia? Or that singing together promotes cardiovascular health?

The foundation of my pedagogy is creating a safe environment that facilitates learning and gently encourages participation. My approach to learning is constructivist, and I have found the principles of positive pedagogy to be effective in practice. Recognizing strengths and focusing on the good helps foster positive and encouraging interaction, which leads to creativity and insights. This is built on genuine encounters, presence, and interest in the other person. Learning always takes place through joy and a sense of security.
